Kennedy Falls As Kiki Rises
MONDAY, JULY 11th
GAME 1: Kennedy Center vs. Omavi
FINAL SCORE: Kennedy Center 74 (1-2), Omavi 79
HALFTIME SCORE: Kennedy center 42, Omavi 32
In a relatively quiet opener on Monday, Omavi Clothing, armed with theDetroit Pistons guard Horace Jenkins, took on the Kennedy Center, who
was without their star, Roscoe "The Defender" Biggers. Omavi got out
to an early lead with the two pronged scoring of Jenkins, and "Mo
Vaughn" . Kennedy Center's answer was the frontcourt muscle of
"Mohawk." Albeit a close game throughout the first and second half,
in the end the Roscoe-less Kennedy Center fell to Omavi
clothing.
GAME 2: SO SO DEF vs. J RECORDS
FINAL SCORE: SO SO DEF 65 (2-2), J RECORDS 66 (1-2)
HALFTIME SCORE: SO SO DEF 39, J RECORDS 32
Monday night's second game provided a great start for week four, not
to mention one of the most exciting games this season. J Records, led
by Seton Hall's Donald Copeland took on So So Def/ The Posse, led by
hometown favorite and soon to be St. John's star, Jermaine Maybank AKA
"The Humble One." Both teams got off to an active start trading baskets early, with So
So Def maintaining the lead through the first half. While Kiki of J
Records was consistent in his scoring, in his teammates he found
little help to combat the polished offensive arsenal of The Humble One
or Jermaine "The Maniac" Wright's wild drives and outright wackiness.
So So Def went into the half up 39-32. While he did play with four other teammates, the story of the second
half was clearly that of J Records one-man-army, Kiki. Doing pretty
much whatever he wanted, Kiki exploded in the second half, scoring on
jumpers short and long, drives to the rack, and a barrage of late game
threes including one that went on to tie the game with 2:25 left, and
one to give J Records their first lead of the game with just 50
seconds left. Despite their best efforts, Kiki simply proved to be
too much for So So Def, recording one of the
season's best individual performances, not to
mention giving J Records the win.
